Opening ceremonies July 3rd with Massena Bicentennial Committee and Massena American Legion Post #79 as Color Guard, beginning 12 days of events.

The Massena Post Office offered a special Bicentennial postmark cancellation on envelopes and postcards.  The cancellation resembled the official 2002 Bicentennial logo, available for a 30-day period from July 3-August 1.
   

Postmasters and carriers from Massena & neighboring areas assist in first-day Bicentennial cancellations.
     

                                
The town crier for a celebration at the opening of the Bicentennial events July 3rd.  Chief Alma Ransom of the neighboring St. Regis Mohawk Tribe congratulated Massena on its 200 years of history.  Fireworks over the mall.
