The Celebration of a Lifetime!
It's the 200th birthday party marking the founding of the town of
Massena, New York. Located directly on the
St. Lawrence River,
Massena is the gatekeeper to the America's Fourth Coast, including the
St. Lawrence Seaway, Thousand Islands and the Great Lakes.
Now celebrating the town's 200th year, the Massena 2002 Bicentennial Committee
has prepared a rich and diverse series of events to celebrate our
tremendous history, heritage and tradition; and honor the
generations of friendly, hard-working Massena citizens and families that
have helped to build our community.
Check out our large Calendar of Events,
including a series of concerts, parades, exhibits, tours, lectures, a
Bicentennial Ball and many other events for a memorable celebration of
our community's 200th anniversary!
Massena's Three-Way Celebration in
2002
ALCOA-Massena's 100th birthday is also
being celebrated in 2002! The aluminum giant, originally called
the Pittsburgh Reduction Company, opened its facilities in the village of
Massena in 1902, when the aluminum production process was still in its
infancy. Following ALCOA's merger with Reynolds in 2000, ALCOA also operates the
Reynolds St. Lawrence Reduction plant, also in Massena.
The year 2002 also marks the Golden Anniversary of Massena Memorial
Hospital. Opened in 1952, the hospital replaced a temporary
barracks facility which had been built of ALCOA aluminum during World War II.
Today, the hospital has approximately 45 physicians on staff to serve
the greater Massena region.
